Auvers-sur-Oise is a charming rural village of some 7.000 people, located 30 km northwest of Paris. Auvers earned its place in history and a safe spot in the tourist guide-books when Vincent van Gogh moved to the village in May 1890 to be treated by Dr. Gachet. In spite of a surge of creativity, he would take his own life two months later. Vincent as well as his brother Theo were buried in the local cemetery.
