Crazy Horse Memorial

Unlike Mount Rushmore, the nearby Crazy Horse Memorial is still very much work in progress. Privately funded, the monument honouring the famous Oglala Lakota chief was to be sculpted by Korczak Ziolkowski. Started in 1948, the sculpture remains to this day far from completed. Ziolkowski died in 1982 and a Memorial Foundation oversees the continuing works.
