Dukes of Orléans

Louis, duke of Orléans (1372 † 1407), Valentina Visconti (1366 † 1408), Philippe d'Orléans, count of Vertus (1396 † 1420), Charles, duke of Orléans, the Poet (1391 † 1465). This monument was commissioned in 1502 by king Louis XII for his grandmother Valentina Visconti and designed by Italian artists for the Célestins church in Paris. Stylistically it links the medieval gisants with the more elaborate renaissance funeral monuments inspired by antique Roman designs.
